August 2026

The month of August sees much to fill us with wonder and stir the heart, both here on earth and in the heavens.

The hand of the Goddess is hard at work turning the fields from green to gold in readiness for the first harvest of the year at the festival of Lughnasadh or Lammas at the beginning of the month.

In the heavens we have an very active time, as a total solar eclipse occurs on the 12th, although here in the UK it will only be partially visible in some areas towards the south. It begins at 18.17, reaches its peak at 19.13 and ends at 20.06.

The Harvest Moon is born on the 12th at which point we experience a partial lunar eclipse, which will be visible in the UK during the first half of the eclipse. It begins at 2.23, peaks at 5.12 and ends at 8.01 (the moon will have set by this time). This moon waxes full on the 28th.

This month, Mars can be seen in the early hours,, Saturn is visible all night and Jupiter is visible at dawn.

The infamous Perseids meteor shower peaks between the 12th and 13th, with a fabulous display all night long.
